Ragoutsaria (Carnival)

People from all over Greece come to the unique Carnival of Kastoria, Ragoutsaria, to enjoy themselves. The masqueraders fill the streets parading, dancing, singing, drinking wine and partying while listening to the fun brass bands.

The Ragoutsaria takes place in January 6 to 8 every year, but it dates back to ancient Greece. It was initially a celebration dedicated to Dionysos, God of Wine. The masqueraders thoughout the years visited the households scaring the evil spirits away with their scary masks and loud music and taking tips and sweets in return.
